Biosphere Digestive Aid and Immune Support combines a range of digestive and immune supporting ingredients in an easy to mix single serving packet. Using only well researched, bioavailable ingredients to ensure optimal absorption, we have created a three-part formula.

PREBIOTIC FIBRE – A non-digestible xylooligosaccharide has been included to help boost levels of beneficial bacteria in the human gut. This fibre helps support and grow our own probiotic bacteria that stimulate our gut activity.

DIGESTIVE ENZYMES – The DigeSEB plus included in the formula is a complete digestive enzyme complex that contains a powerful combination of proteases, carbohydrases, and lipases. This combination has a broad specificity for legumes, milk, soy, cereal grains, meat, and other foods. It is effective in a pH range of 3-9, working throughout the wide variations of pH in the digestive tract. DigeSEB plus provides plant-sourced enzymes.

IMMUNE AND GUT SUPPORT

Glutamine (Sustamine™) – Glutamine is considered a preferred fuel for the cells lining the mucosa of the small intestine. It acts as an anti-inflammatory, supports the growth and repair of the intestinal lining, as well as coating and protecting cell walls from irritants.

Curcumin (95% Extract) – Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric has been shown to be a powerful anti-inflammatory to the mucous membranes that coat the intestines. It can also help stimulate the gallbladder to produce more bile, in turn improving digestion, bloating and discomfort.

Aloe Vera (Left Powder) – Aloe Vera has natural healing and detoxifying powers and works gently within the intestinal tract to help break down impacted food residues and thoroughly cleanse the bowl. It can also help fight inflammation, promote regular bowel movements and reduce discomfort and bloating.

Black Pepper Fruit Extract (BioPerine®) – Black Pepper stimulates the release of digestive enzymes from the pancreas to improve the breakdown of food. It enhances the digestive capacity and significantly reduces the gastrointestinal food transit time. Black pepper also has a synergistic effect with curcumin, improving the absorption and resulting in an overall greater anti-inflammatory effect.

Zinc (bisglycinate chelate) – Zinc is required for the growth and healing of cells, especially important for our intestinal cells that have an extremely high turnover rate. Zinc also supports over 300 enzymes, including the ones in our stomach that help break down food, helping our digestion.

Our aim is to support our bodies natural digestive process as best possible, rather than try to introduce new bacteria in the form of probiotics. Often the levels of probiotic supplements are far too low to effectively work

About Digestion

The digestive system is made up of the digestive tract, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. Food travels through the hollow digestive tract while the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder produce digestive juices that work to break down our food into nutrients we can absorb.  The digestive juices that these organs produce contain enzymes which help break down out food into molecules small enough to be absorbed into the blood and transported where they need to go.

Gut flora or microbiota are microorganisms that live in our digestive tract to help keep the digestion system working smoothly. They help ferment indigestible carbohydrates and produce lactic acid which helps improve the release of digestive juices and enzymes from the stomach, pancreas, and gallbladder.

Digestion is important for breaking down food into nutrients that the body can use for energy, cell repair, and growth. Without optimal digestion, we may become deficient in key nutrients our body needs to function properly.

SIGNS OF POOR DIGESTION
Poor digestion may show itself in the short term through: Bloating, Flatulence, Diarrhoea, Constipation.

After an extended period of time with poor digestion, your body may not be getting the nutrients it needs which can cause some long term signs such as: Acne, Bad Breath, Food Allergies, Eczema, Dermatitis, Rosacea, Weak fingernails, Iron Deficiency, Candida, Arthritis, Fatigue.

All these symptoms can be a result of a weakness somewhere in the digestive process.

As we age our digestion declines to the point where we are producing less stomach acid, digestive enzymes, and our gut flora starts to decline. While some of this is unavoidable, we can prolong and slow down declines with a healthy diet and lifestyle.

BENEFITS OF PREBIOTIC FIBRE
Prebiotics are food ingredients that help support the growth of probiotic bacteria. They are defined as a selectively fermented ingredient that allows specific changes, both in the composition and/or activity in the gastrointestinal microflora.1 These ‘Good Bacteria’ work to keep the entire body balanced from the brain to immune system. When these bacteria are not thriving, people may experience some of the digestive symptoms mentioned above. Together with the gut immune system, microflora contributes significantly to the barrier that prevents pathogenic bacteria from invading the gastrointestinal tract (leaky gut).

Studies have shown prebiotic fibres allow specific changes, both in the composition and activity of the gastrointestinal microflora that improves one’s overall health.2 Prebiotic intake may reduce inflammation and enhance the bioavailability and update of minerals.

PreticX™ the prebiotic fibre used is a new potent prebiotic with strong clinical data. It is a non-digestible, stable xylooligosaccharide that boosts levels of beneficial bacteria in the human gut and acts as an effective soluble dietary fibre.3 It is important to have healthy gut flora as a key part of the digestive system and to do this one has to feed the microbes prebiotics in order to receive the maximum health benefit.

BENEFITS OF DIGESTIVE ENZYMES
Digestive Enzymes are what breaks down food down into nutrients that we can absorb. Primarily produced in the saliva, pancreas, and small intestine, these enzymes turn our food into amino acids, fatty acids and simple sugars for our body to use. If our body is not producing enough digestive enzymes, we can’t break down out food. Even if we are eating well, without the enzymes we won’t be getting all the good nutrition.

Low-grade inflammation in the digestive tract caused by food allergies and low stomach acid can lead to deficiencies in digestive enzymes. However, the one trigger that probably affects the digestion enzyme production of most people is stress. Chronic stress can leave us in the sympathetic “fight or flight” mode where digestion including digestive enzyme product is low on our bodies priority list.

To correct a constantly impaired digestive system, relaxation and health food are the most important. Digestive enzymes are a great way to help intervene, as with improved digestion and nutrient update, we’re able to feel better and deal with stress better. 4, 5

BENEFITS OF ALOE VERA
Aloe Vera leaf powder has been included for its gut soothing effects. It acts as an anti-inflammatory that aids the recovery of an inflamed gut. It has been shown to promote regular bowel movements due to the enzymes in contains.6

Aloe Vera has the ability to decrease discomfort for those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and with its natural healing properties, help restore the digestive tract to good health.7

BENEFITS OF ZINC
Zinc is an essential mineral to maintain optimal health that also plays a large role in digestive health. It is required for the growth and healing of cells, particularly the intestinal cells that have a high turnover rate.8

It is important for keeping the intestinal lining strong and working to minimise leaky gut and unwanted immune responses.9 Zinc has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect which also contributes to the health and function of the intestinal lining.10

Zinc also aids in digestion by attaching to over 300 enzymes including our digestive ones. It can support alleviating diarrhoea and helps maintain stomach acid levels, needed to break down food.11,12

Zinc bisglycinate chelate has been used as a preferred form of absorbable zinc.13 This form is bound to the amino acid glycine as a way to improve absorption.

BENEFITS OF GLUTAMINE
Glutamine is a common amino acid important for a variety of bodily functions, including being the preferred amino acid for the cells lining the mucosa of the small intestine. It is the most important nutrient for repairing the gastrointestinal tract and has been shown to help repair digestive function and strengthen the gut lining.14

The form used L-Alanyl-L-Glutamine under the name Sustimine has been shown to help protect the integrity of the gastrointestinal tract, contributing to better nutrition absorption. Ultra-pure, clinically tested, Sustamine® is produced through a patented fermentation method to create a unique dipeptide that is more easily absorbed by the body than complex protein molecules

BENEFITS OF BLACK PEPPER
Black Pepper serves multiple roles in this formula. As a standalone ingredient, it has been shown to stimulate the digestive enzymes of the pancreas, enhance digestive capacity and significantly reduce the gastrointestinal food transit time.15

While enhancing the digestive process, it also acts as an anti-oxidant, helping to control inflammation. Black Pepper helps boost the bioavailability of the curcumin extract up to 2000% by inhibiting our bodies process of clearing the curcumin from our body.16

BioPerine® was used as the form of black pepper extract due to its high concentration of at least 95% piperine and being the only source of piperine to have undergone clinical studies to substantiate its safety and efficacy for nutritional use.

BENEFITS OF CURCUMIN
Curcumin is the most active component of Turmeric which is derived from the underground stems of the plant Curcuma longa. Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory which is why we have used a powerful curcumin extract rather than plain turmeric powder in the digestive aid formula.17

Curcumin has been shown to help aid digestive in multiple ways, primarily through its anti-inflammatory abilities for inflammatory bowel disease and ability to stimulate bile production.18,19,20 Reducing inflammation helps our gut function properly to absorb nutrients and adequate levels of bile help break down our food into absorbable nutrients.

WHY WE CHOSE NOT TO INCLUDE PROBIOTICS
The Biosphere Digestive Aid has been created to support the digestive tract and help your own good gut bacteria to thrive, rather than to introduce foreign bacteria and hope for the best. Probiotics are live bacteria that die over time, which means you might not be getting what you think you’re getting when you buy a probiotic from a health store shelf. Most companies will put more colony forming units in each dose than they say on the label to account for the death of the probiotics over time, however, the rate at which they die off is influenced by a huge range of factors making it very difficult to accurately claim how much is in each capsule.

Not only do probiotics die off over time, but when consumed, our stomach acid does a great job killing them unless they are specially encapsulated in a hard protective coating that can survive stomach acid. A hard glued capsule does not generally make for a great supplement when absorption is key, which is why including probiotics was not an option.

We didn’t want people paying for something they weren’t getting and trying to introduce new bacteria and encourage them to colonise is a much tougher task than supporting the good bacteria already in the gut. Feeding good bacteria what is needs to thrive and reducing surround inflammation is our goal for improved digestive health.

As a standalone product, carefully encapsulated and freshly harvested, probiotics do have some gut health benefits when dealing with antibiotic-induced diarrhoea. However unless you’re getting high doses of probiotics from a reliable source with extremely fast turnover and a freshly packed product, it becomes difficult to honestly offer a premium product.

Digestive Aid Side Effects and Warnings

Drug interactions: Potential interactions have been suggested for Aloe vera and drugs that may alter electrolyte balance, such as thiazide diuretics and corticosteroids.

Black and white pepper might decrease how quickly the liver breaks down some medications.
Taking black pepper and white pepper might decrease how well the body gets rid of lithium

Each sachet contains 4.3g

Mix the contents of a sachet into water (200ml) until dissolved. Take one or two sachets daily before meals.
